INTRO: The Cost Many Will Not Pay

Discipleship hurts: turn from following the world to…

How blessed we are: unthankful, cynical, judgmental.

WAKE US UP: PASTOR SAEED: 3/13/2014 http://www.christianpost.com/news/has-americas-form-of-christianity-left-the-church-in-spiritually-dead-condition-116055/

MARTYRS NOW

Many don’t continue with Christ because they are expecting a party, not a battle…expecting wealth, not dying to self.

NO LONGER A SLUMDOG excerpt

A SENSE OF PRIDE AND ENTITLEMENT: Our BLESSINGS have become CURSES; FREEDOMS, PERVERSIONS.
The Cost of Following Jesus
18 When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. 19 Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” 20 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” 21 Another disciple said to him, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” 22 But Jesus told him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”

It won’t be easy.

FRIENDS / FAMILY / COMFORT / BUSINESS DEALS…

Not for those hesitating and making excuses.

LUKE 14:25 Now great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them, 26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. 27 And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. 28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it—29 lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, 30 saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish’? 31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32 Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace. 33 So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.

1. Hate: Miseō [me-so]: μισέω … its Semitic meaning is ‘to love less.’

2. Forsake: to abandon; to withdraw companionship, protection, or support from somebody

3. Count the cost is not an “emotional” response.

~Don’t Cross Your Finger

Christ didn’t die so we can indulge and enjoy the fleeting pleasures of this life; He died so that we could have eternal life!

HE BECKONS US: Come and die. Follow Me. Carry your cross…count the cost.

I don’t want that!

I LOVE AMERICA, BUT AMERICAN CHRISTIANITY HAS PERVERTED THE GOSPEL…

Pastor’s are not CEOS; they are called to lead the people in complete surrender to Christ.

We don’t give to receive; we give to kill the god of materialism.

We don’t come to church to give God His due; we come to church because we desperately need Him.

We don’t have to apologize for the gospel.

Jesus is not a genie in a bottle; He is the Lord Jesus Christ. Make No Mistake: “Every Knee Will Bow!”

We will tell people, “Jesus will make you rich and happy”, but we fail to mention persecution, hatred, scorn, ridicule, and disdain.

The SOLUTION:

A Baptism of love: 1 Corinthians 13

“Are you ready to die for your church?”

Wives are little girls who need our love

Men are little boys who need your love and respect

Your kids need your love more than your advice

We need to love each other; protect not gossip; guard not criticize

You need to see God’s love…STOP fighting Him.

The HOPE:

“Lord, I’ve been wrong…remove my carnality, crush my pride, draw me closer to You. I repent of my sin and turn completely and unconditionally to you.”

You Can’t Awaken the Sleeping Church with Bedtime Stories

“You’ve left your first love…Repent and return.”

Churches are Closing

Pastor’s are Resigning

Worship services are dead

ICHABOD: the glory of the Lord has departed.

CHRIST STILL CALLS: “Come…Follow Me.”

CLOSING: One of the dangers “Oh, that’s just Shane.”

He uses the foolish things to confound the wise. He uses the broken to break the prideful. He uses the weak to crush the strong. He uses my pain to heal the brokenhearted. He uses my past to help your future.

Too many hypocrites! No, too many sick people …
Don’t look to the imperfect messenger; look to the perfect message!
Many can preach the gospel better than me, but no one can preach a better gospel!
