Many “Christians” are now suggesting that those who embrace the homosexual lifestyle can live in harmony with biblical Christianity. And more and more Evangelicals with gay children are challenging the church to rethink its position. But can we re-think truth? Truth is not flexible when it comes to absolutes—it’s solid and unyielding. When children struggle with sin, parents should point them to the light.
Phil Robertson, of Duck Dynasty fame, sparked controversy after saying that homosexual behavior is a sin.
The PC (politically correct) police went on high alert and encouraged suspension from his popular A&E show for expressing views about homosexuality. “It is a messed up situation when Miley Cyrus gets a laugh, and Phil Robertson gets suspended,” Bobby Jindal, the governor of Louisiana said. Clearly, our nation is now calling good evil and evil good.
- To say that authentic Christians hate, or fear, those trapped in the homosexual lifestyle demonstrates a gross misunderstanding of the principles of the Christian faith. To “confront in love” simply comes from a desire to honor God, and to truly love and care for others. We must extend compassion but without compromise.
- If warning, confronting, challenging, advising, an admonishing can all be categorized as “hate-speech,” then, based on this definition, many parents hate their children. But of course the opposite is true: Parents love their children, so much so that they warn, confront, challenge, advise, and admonish daily. So why are those who do the same often characterized as “hate-mongers”?
