10/27/12 – What is the Gospel…How can I be saved? – Pastor Shane Idleman
As a pastor, I’m often asked, “How can I be saved?” The Romans Road to salvation has been very helpful during these types of conversations—it uses verses from the book of Romans to explain, not only why we need salvation, but how a person is saved…. Continue reading

10-1-2011 – “Not Everything Done In God’s Name Bears His Approval”
Part four in a series on genuine revival.
As stated last week, Christians can embrace one of two extremes concerning the word “revival.” At one extreme are those who embrace pure emotionalism and hysteria—“if it’s odd it’s God”—all weird behavior is excused. The other extreme lacks a living, vibrant spiritual life. The church feels dead, cold, and lifeless. Talk of reviving the things of God (revival) is either dismissed or ridiculed. Both extremes can hinder the work of the Holy Spirit and genuine Christian growth. I am primarily addressing the first extreme in this series. Continue reading
Without Unction, Preaching Has Little Effect On The Hearer
Over the next few weeks, Shane is revisiting articles that drew the most feedback in 2010. Here is number four…
Many today argue that we can’t preach with authority because we need to have a flexible approach to all aspects of theology. By “flexible” they mean accommodating all beliefs, but truth is not “flexible” when it comes to absolutes; it’s solid and unyielding—an anchor. Truth liberates. Truth rebuilds. Truth restores. Truth heals. Truth transforms. Truth prevails…you don’t change truth; truth changes you! Continue reading

Where Are The Bold, Authoritative Preachers Today?
A friend recently asked, “Where are those with uncompromising power and God-given authority in our pulpits today?” His statement reminded me of the desperate need for passionate, spirit-filled preachers focused on pleasing God rather than man. Our culture’s false perception of God as a cosmic ball of love, or a doting grandfather desperately needs to be challenged.
Unfortunately, difficult truths are often compromised, watered-down, or avoided altogether in the hope of “not offending,” “securing an audience,” or building a “mega-ministry.” As a result, the church is a mile wide but only an inch deep; judgment is never mentioned, repentance is never sought, sin is often excused, and lives are not radically changed. Points to Consider Before Leaving Your Church – Part 2
Over the next few weeks, I will revisit articles that drew the most feedback in 2010. Here is number two… In America today, a significant number of people are switching churches, or leaving altogether. I’ve found that judging “rightly,” as well as unwarranted criticism, both play significant roles.
Last week we concluded with point four:
4. Do you have a critical spirit? This could also translate into a cynical, or negative, attitude. If you do, you’ve already turned a deaf ear; it will be difficult to discern God’s leading. Continue reading
