If My People Humble Themselves, Pt. 2

“The pride of your heart has deceived you…” Obadiah 1:3

  • ITS SO DECEPTIVE THAT THOSE WHO NEED IT THE MOST ARE THOSE WHO THINK THEY DON’T: It’s the only disease known to mankind that makes everyone sick except the person who has it.

  • Pride is the defense attorney within – we are born into self preservation mode.

  • Pride is your greatest liability because of the deception.

It’s like Running thru the glass door

3 SIGNS OF DECEPTION= Excuses, Blame shifting, AND Self-exaltation

C.H. Spurgeon rightly noted, “We are never, never so much in danger of being proud as when we think we are humble.”

  • I often ask, “Are you genuinely sorry and repentant, or are you just sorry that your reputation and life are on the verge of being ruined?”

The difference between sorrow and repentance is vital because many confuse the two. It’s possible to be sorry about the “consequences,” but not truly repentant. A penitent person turns from sin—anger, for example, subsides, not remains. They accept full responsibility for their actions without blame, resentment, or bitterness. When repentance is genuine, we want to be reconciled with those we’ve injured. We seek forgiveness without conditions and stipulations. We take full (not partial) responsibility for our actions. We don’t say, “But this and that…”. There can be no “but’s” when repentance is genuine.  “I am sorry. I was wrong. Please forgive me,” are often (although not always) healing words and signs of repentance. Excuses need to stop before change and restoration can occur.

ASK THE DEFENSE ATTORNEY WITHIN TO LEAVE

AND THE HOLY SPIRIT TO CONVICT

____________________________

“Grace changes the nature of man, but nothing changes the nature of sin” (John Owen; Sin & Temptation). Pride weakens spiritual strength

*Humility opens the door to prayer…to seeking..to turning.

Galatians 5:26 (KJV) 26 “Let us not be desirous of vain glory…”

  • Vain glory – excessive elation or pride over one’s own achievements, abilities; boastful vanity. The sin of self-promotion and self-exaltation

How dangerous is PRIDE?

  1. I will break down your stubborn pride. Leviticus 26:19

  2. His pride led to his downfall…2 Chronicles 26:16

  3. When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom Pr 11:2

  1. Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice. Pr 13:10

  2. Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18

  3. I hate a proud look …Proverbs

  4. Before his downfall a man’s heart is proud, but humility comes before honor. Proverbs 18:12

  5. Love is patient, love is kind…it is not proud. 1 Corinthians 13:4

Pride is the 1st step away from God – “I will resist the proud”

  • Often, it takes humility to produce humility: I don’t see the filth that pours out until there are consequences. Don’t let the trial make you haughty; let it make you holy …

Do you need GOD TO HEAR, FORGIVE AND HEAL? Humble yourself…it’s much easier and painless then God humbling you.
