What is a Faithful Servant?
Finishing Matthew 24 and 25 – What is a Faithful Servant?
KEY: All of us are servants – two groups: faithful and unfaithful
Context: Matt. 24:42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
Matt. 24:45-51 “Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing. Assuredly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all his goods. But if that evil servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards, the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him and at an hour that he is not aware of, and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
A faithful servant treats others like God would.
CF. MATT. 25:44 “Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ 45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
A faithful servant is faithful over the little things because his heart is right – “he will make him ruler over all His goods.”
A faithful servant does not live like the unfaithful – “begins…to eat and drink with the drunkards.”
Sonoma County wine tasting, Vegas party scene, Irish Pubs in Hermosa Beach –
A faithful servant is not a hypocrite – one servant had outward reform but not inward change – Hypocrisy is always linked with foolishness.
Rob Bell: ‘I Don’t Use the Word Christian, Jesus Would Be Mortified Religion Started in His Name’
“I will build My church…” It’s not a Religion – it’s relationship with Almighty GOD!
The article continued…
[His] book questioned the existence of Hell and Jesus Christ being the only way to salvation.
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey in February 2015, Rob and his wife, Kristen, claimed that the American church would inevitably accept gay marriage and questioned the Bible’s relevance to modern society – “We’re moments away. I think the culture is already there. And the church will continue to be even more irrelevant when it quotes letters from 2,000 years ago as their best defense,” claimed Rob.
“I don’t think the heart of the Jesus message has much to do with boycotting Target.”
He’s influencing many of our children, and you want me to be quiet?
Many are more concerned about the Culture’s view of them than GODS!
Everyone else is coming out of the closet – let me come out of the closet:
When a nation is more concerned about political correctness than biblical correctness they are foolish.
When the nation calls good evil and evil good they are foolish.
When the church enjoys sin more than their Savior they are foolish.
When the church lies in a Coma, unwilling to awaken to the things of God, they are foolish.
“You FOOL – tonight your soul will be required of you.”
⇒ We don’t have time for jokes in the pulpit, worship concerts than resemble pagan rituals, and church services designed to draw in the masses – WE NEED GOD!
You can’t truly seek HIS face and try to “save face”.
CF. MATT 25 “Cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
People go into outer darkness because they reject God and His will.
One Breath – one heartbeat separates us from eternal life and eternal death.
The Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins – 25 “Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. 6 “And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’ 8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. 11 “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ 12 But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13 “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.
The foolish virgins had a form of godliness – they had the appearance of being the bride – they were part of the group; they dressed the part – they looked the part. But they were not READY! Jesus said – ‘I do not know you.’
TO KNOW: “oida” – relational and experiential.
THE SAME APPLIES TODAY: WHAT IF WE STARTED IN THE BALCONY?
Hosea said that there is “no knowledge of God in the land” …
There is no Faithfulness! There is no Relationship! There is no Obedience! – “Why do you call me Lord, Lord, yet do not do the things I command?”
Do you know Him relationally? Do you know Him experientially?
